What is shiplap siding?

Shiplap siding is a type of exterior or interior cladding that is made of wooden boards. It is installed by overlapping the boards horizontally to create a tight, weather-resistant seal. The term "shiplap" refers to the way the boards fit together, with a small groove, or "rabbet," cut into the top and bottom edges of each board so they can interlock with the board above and below it. Shiplap siding has a distinctive, rustic look that is often used in farmhouse-style homes and other rustic or coastal designs.

Our Shiplap Installation Process:

Prepare the wall: Before installing the siding, the wall must be prepared by removing any existing siding and repairing any damage to the underlying structure.
Install the furring strips: Furring strips are thin strips of wood that are attached to the wall to create a flat surface for the siding to be installed on.
Cut the shiplap boards to size: The shiplap boards are cut to the appropriate length and width using a saw.
Install the shiplap boards: Starting at the bottom of the wall, the shiplap boards are nailed to the furring strips, with the rabbets facing downward to create the interlocking effect.
Continue installing the shiplap boards: The boards are installed in rows, with each row overlapping the previous row by about 1/4 inch.
Cut and install the trim pieces: Once the shiplap boards are installed, trim pieces are cut to size and installed around the edges of the wall to create a finished look.
Sand and finish the siding: Finally, the siding is sanded to smooth any rough edges and finished with paint or stain as desired.
