Cold process system or cold adhesive applications involve multiple sheets of modified bitumen and a cold solvent-based or water-based adhesive applied with a sprayer, squeegee, brush or trowel. Self-adhering SBS modified bitumen is also available.
SBS modified bitumen reinforcement sheets are sometimes called a “cold process BUR system.” because the procedure is very much like hot-applied BUR (built-up roof) systems. SBS and APP are both types of modified bitumen roofing. While SBS modified bitumen has rubber-like qualities, APP (Atactic PolyPropylene) modified bitumen is commonly called “plastic asphalt.”
